Shambles Ensemble is a producing theatre company founded by director Chris Yarnell. We create visually striking work that combines ensemble physicality, theatrical illusion and bold storytelling.

Our productions move between large-scale literary adaptation, interdisciplinary experimentation and new writing development. We are building a slate of mid-scale touring work for national and international stages, alongside research-led projects that explore the relationship between live performance and emerging technologies.
Shambles believes in muscular storytelling, inventive stagecraft and the power of live bodies in a room. We make theatre that feels immediate, human and alive.
The company’s origins lie in a DYCP grant from Arts Council England, supporting research into movement-led and interdisciplinary work on film. Since then, Shambles projects have been supported by Camden People’s Theatre, shortlisted for the Charlie Hartill Award, selected for Brighton Screen Dance Festival, and enjoyed a sell-out run at White Bear Theatre ahead of a transfer to Brighton Fringe.
